May Books from From My Carolina Home

It’s been a great month for books, some recently published and some older. I’ve been lucky with my choices, based on some recommendations, and one from NetGalley that I read pre-publication that just published. I’ve linked to the Amazon page for all so you can read more about them, or find an audio version. Thank you for using my links when you can.

The Echo of Old Books by Barbara Davis – Rare book dealer Ashlyn comes across a bound diary telling a story of love lost and regret. Days later, she finds a companion, bound the same ...

April Books from From My Carolina Home

Because I have been required to rest a lot after my knee injections for three weeks in a row, I have gotten a lot of reading in. I mentioned last month that I’ve signed up for the book site NetGalley, where publishers offer e-books pre-release in exchange for honest reviews. I have three more great ones for you today! But first, I have three books that were enjoyable that are older.

Who is Maud Dixon? By Alexandra Andrews – A roller coaster ride that begins slowly, and builds to a stunning peak with unexpected twists. Brilliantly plotted, with pacing that ...

November Book Reviews from From My Carolina Home

Time for some reviews of the latest books I’ve been reading. With more time at home, I’m getting more reading done than ever. Some I’ve had on my shelf for quite a while and just haven’t read yet, others I wanted to read so much I just got a copy at the library. Several of these are recommended, but three are in the ‘meh’ category. All are affiliate linked to Amazon for you to see the plot synopsis if you would like. For brevity, I have not included that here.

A Stack of Books with A Common Theme from From My Carolina Home

I’ve been reading a lot lately, with several novels in the historical genre. I do enjoy well written historical fiction, particularly when it involves the home arts.  The stack this time were a diverse group of genres, and time periods.   One common theme in all these novels is women trying to make new lives after some kind of trauma or upheaval in their lives.  I’ll take them in order of time in history, beginning with pioneer times and ending with modern times.  Only one really stood out as a highly recommend.

Fiction with a Quilting Theme from From My Carolina Home

With all this extra time on our hands, reading has been a nice way to spend a morning.  This past month and a half, I’ve gathered several new books and devoured them all with quilting as a theme.  Two were sent to me by C&T Publishing specifically for this post, and two by their authors.  I did not promise good reviews to anyone, but the great thing is they are all recommended.   Affiliate links to C&T Publishing and Amazon are provided.  You can click on the links to see the publisher’s synopsis of the plot.

Covid-19 Shut-Down, Week One from Cheryl's Teapots2Quilting

The State of Illinois shut down on Saturday, March 21st.  My job is considered 'essential' (Home Health Care Worker) so I'm still going to work every day.

My week started with snow.  Thank goodness it didn't stick to the roads.  We got almost 4 inches.  Of course it was almost all gone by the end of the day, Monday.  As I'm writing this, it's 55 degrees outside.  Welcome to Spring!

Doves of Hope from If These Threads Could Talk

I just finished my “Doves of Hope” quilt and wanted to share it with you.

Deb Tucker designed this quilt for Marie Bostwick’s book “Hope on the Inside”. Deb’s pattern Doves of Hope is a twist on a traditional block titled Dove in the Window. She actually nestled a small dove block inside a large dove block to create a quarter section for each 19½” .

I will be teaching Doves of Hope in January 2020 at Copper Canyon Quilting in Lake Havasu, AZ.

I absolutely love how it came out. I pulled out my Island Batik scraps for ...
